Home win for the Under 14s
Normal service resumed on Pitch 5
Following their first home defeat of the season against Worcester last week, the Under 14s welcomed Shipston on Stour to Bodicote Park. With Shipston being the first team to beat us this season, the boys took to the pitch determined to put in a performance.
The match kicked-off with a strong wind blowing across the pitch which caused problems to both teams. Playing on the Shipston 22,
Cian Gerber put a chip kick over the defence and
Max Blinkhorn won the foot race to touch down under the posts. Despite the windy conditions,
Cian Gerber added the conversion. Banbury's second try came from
Rafe Wingrove, with the prop collecting the ball midway in the Banbury half and ran the length of the pitch to score under the posts.
Max Blinkhorn added the conversion.
Charlie Cranley added Banbury's third try in the left hand corner after a series of attacks on the Shipston line, but
Cian Gerber failed with the conversion attempt from wide out to leave the score 19 - 0 to Banbury at half-time.
The second half was a lot closer, with neither side making any telling inroads into the opposition 22. As the game entered the last ten minutes, Shipston found themselves camped on the Banbury line following a number of five-metre scrums. The Banbury defence managed to hold the ball up over the line but Shipston managed to touch down on the line at the third attempt, but were unable to add the conversion. With the last play of the match,
Felix Sissons-Roffey crossed for Banbury on the left wing to restore the 19 point lead to make the final score 24 - 5 to Banbury.
