Banbury U16s 29 - Shipston 5
By Keith oakes
Reversal of away loss earlier in season to near neighbours
In cold conditions with a chilly breeze, the game was deadlocked for the first ten minutes in a close contest. A series of forward drives up the left wing culminated with Louis crashing over to score. Quinton struggled against the windy conditions, missing the conversion from out wide.
After two failed attempts held up, Banbury capitalised on their strength at the 5 metre scrum to send Charlie over after a couple of phases. 10-0 at half time.
The host began the second half strongly. A lineout on the left side near the visitors 10 metre line resulted in a well-timed peel from Liam, who continued a great break to within 5 metres of the line, before offloading to Harvey J to complete the move and score.
Good handling down the line soon resulted in Olli W making a solo dash down the right wing from in the Banbury half to score. Although from wide, this time Quinton mastered the gale to slot the conversion. 22-0.
As slick running line from Will H enabled him to take an offload from Quinton to score under the posts. An easy conversion from Quinton added the extras.
Shipston still had a sting in their tail though, and slick handling set their left winger off to run in a consolation try. Final score 29-5. A great effort by the Banbury lads.
