International Weekend of Touch Rugby coming to Banbury Rugby Club on Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th of March 2019.

This weekend we welcome three International touch teams to Banbury Rugby Club as they prepare for the touch rugby World Cup in Malaysia starting on the 28th of April 2019.

We will be hosting:

-Scottish Mixed Open Team World Ranked number 2 and current European champions.

-The Scottish Senior Mixed Open Team.

-Wales Mixed Open Team World Ranked number 7 who also won the silver medal at last years European Championships in Nottingham only narrowly losing the final in a nail biting drop off (extra time).

Few words from Banbury O2 Touch's Mark Roberts:

"We are delighted to be hosting 3 of the best touch teams in the world and it’s such an honour that they have chosen to train at Banbury Rugby Club. We had the pleasure of meeting the players and coaches last year at another training camp in Chipping Norton.

Robbie McKenzie Scotland’s Head Coach offered us a chance to play his team we won’t mention the score line, but our players loved the opportunity to play a word class team. The Q&A session after being the highlight of the day.

We made a point of keeping in contact with the head coach Robbie over the last year. So, as they continue preparing for the World Cup we have the opportunity to not only train with his team but also on Saturday the 16th of March at 1.15pm we get to play the Scotland team again.

We would love the whole club to come along and give us some support and make a load of noise. The bar will be open afterwards for the six nations climax."

A few words from Robbie McKenzie Scotland Mixed Open Head Coach

"The Scotland Mixed Open Touch team are delighted to continue our relationship with Banbury Touch in the lead up to the Touch World Cup in Malaysia in late April. We had a wonderful experience last year while preparing for the European Championships and we were blown away by the success of the Banbury club and their passion for the game.

We’re delighted to also welcome the Wales Mixed Open team, who are one of the best and most innovative teams you could hope to host. Also, the Scotland Senior Mixed (over 30s) team are joining the training weekend getting some valuable game time against Europe’s best mixed teams. We’ll also be joined by a pod of Europe’s top referees all of whom are heading to the Touch World Cup.

Scotland Mixed Open look forward to running against the Banbury Club and offering any tips or sharing experience we can.”
