We are delighted that 5 of our Touch Rugby players have been selected to represent the West Wild Cats at the England Touch National in Nottingham on the 14th and 15th of September 2019.
The touch nationals are part of the England selection process for the European Touch Championships also in Nottingham in the summer of 2020. Being selected for the Wild Cats in touch rugby is the same honour the Bulls players get from representing Oxfordshire.
Players selected as follows:
Ben Blackburn Men’s 35 squad
Mark Roberts Men’s 35 squad
Dave Whittaker Men’s 35 squad (training squad)
Dug Ansley Men’s 45 squad
Thabo Saboo Mixed Open (training squad)
Speaking to some of the players selected ahead of some gruelling training sessions:
Ben Blackburn: I am super excited to be selected for the West Wild Cats team. The training is going to be tough, but I’m up for the challenge, and I am proud to be representing Banbury Rugby Club on the national stage. Hopefully with this year more players being selected it will encourage more people in Banbury to come and join in with touch rugby.
Mark Roberts: What can I say I am super excited to be playing my 2nd year for the Wild Cats? I may now live in Spain but I am still very much a Banbury Touch player and I miss the club and the people more than I ever expected. Having experienced how tough the nationals are last year I am training harder than ever but like Ben looking forward to the challenge.
Dave Whittaker: It’s really exciting to have a number of players from Banbury Rugby Club training and playing for the West Wildcats. We all have the opportunity to develop our skills as touch players with some of the best coaches England touch has to offer. Hopefully we can bring back some new skills to help develop touch at Banbury in the future.
Personally I cannot wait to get started and I am looking forward to the challenge and giving my best.
Good luck to all our players in the Nationals1
